1. He Opted To Affirm Our Human Dignity

He Opted To Affirm Our Human Dignity

Let us wish each other a ‘happy Christmas’, on this festive occasion to affirm and proclaim our dignity as human persons. By becoming ‘one of us’, Christ confirmed that God is in our company and that human dignity is above all else.

Christmas day is a day of commitment to uphold the dignity of all, to stand by each other.

It is the day to proclaim our commitment to provide all that is required – food, shelter, health, security, freedom — to uphold that dignity and sustain the gift of life.

It is a day to denounce all that denies human dignity, including involuntary disappearances, extrajudicial killings, torture, trafficking in persons, illegal human organ sale, evictions and forceful displacement, illegal arrest, denial of justice and the deliberate deprivation of all that sustains human life.

It is a day to resolve to be the protector, the active defender against any form of denial of sublime dignity and to be a living witness for life.

Let us all join hands in that commitment to human dignity in the year to come.
