PAKISTAN : ATTACK ON JUSTICE AND PEACE ACTIVISTS
PAKISTAN : ATTACK ON JUSTICE AND PEACE ACTIVISTS

An Update by ACCPP <acpp@pacific.net.hk>

Here is our latest information on the tragic killings of justice and peace workers in Karachi, Pakistan, together with information on how to send messages of condolences and support.
Religious minorities and NGOs in Pakistan have expressed their grief and outrage at the killing of members of the staff of IDARA-E-AMAN-O-INSAF (Institute for Justice and Peace), known as IDARA, in Karachi, Pakistan on 25 September.
Pakistan’s President, General Musharraf, has expressed his grief at the incident, and a police investigation is currently underway. In the context of recent attacks on Christians, Westerners, and the harassment of NGOs, the Karachi killings have contributed to a sense of fear and insecurity among religious minorities and NGO workers. Messages of solidarity and support to your friends in Pakistan may be appreciated at this difficult time.
Messages of condolences to IDARA, and to t he families of the deceased, may be sent to:
Sara Ivan, Chairperson
Email: idara@khi.paknet.com.pk or duk@khi.paknet.com.pk

Islamic militant groups have warned of further attacks against Christian and Western targets in Pakistan if the government prevents them from entering Kashmir to fight in a jihad (holy war) against Indian soldiers. At least sixteen Islamic militants linked to the extremist group Lashkar-e-Jhangvi have been arrested by police since the brutal attacks on Muree Christian School and Taxila Christian Hospital on 5 and 9 August in which 10 people were killed and dozens injured.
