ANOTHER STEP TOWARDS PEACE

35 Youth from Mannar, came to Kandy , on the 14th March 15 of them donated blood for the Sinhala people of Kandy. 11 Youth, two Priests and a lady from Kandy donated blood on the 03rd May at Mannar Base hospital. We have wasted blood and young lives in vain during the past twenty years. Now we share, donate blood to build young lives, to save lives of Sinhala and Tamil people.
On the 02nd of May 2002, fifteen Youth from Kandy, together with Rev.Fr.Nandana, Rev.Fr.George and Ven Gallalle Saddatissa, went to Mannar on a Peace mission. Valvodayam organized a Blood Donation programme at Mannar Base Hospital on the 03rd morning. Eleven youth, the two priests and the lady from Kandy donated blood for the Tamil people of the North. A religious ceremony was held before the blood donation programme. The Bishop of Mannar, the G.A. , D.M.O. of Mannar, and Rev.Fr.Jesuraj, the Director of Valvodayam, Mannar, participated in the programme. The Bishop of Mannar Joseph Rayappu, addressed the gathering and said that this event is unique, because it is only with Pain and sharing that we could bring about Peace. The Buddhist monks, Ven.Saddatissa Thero of Asgiriya and Ven.Gunaratne Thero the Chief monk of the North and East, also addressed the gathering. They highlighted the importance of building human bridges. The Bishop in His talk stressed the role of the civil society in the whole peace process.
